Thursday 25th May 2017: 12.44am. Just watched Ghost in the Shell the movie with Scarlett Johansson. Not great, they tried to replicate the original Japanese animation faithfully but it kinda fell flat. That said, watching the original it looks very dated nowadays, the whole notion of part human and part machine in super human form yet totally hackable is so widely understood to be technically infeasible it eliminates any plausibility, and the original (or this edition) loses so much of the meaning and relevance it had back in the mid nineties back when fundamental limits weren't so obvious. I can safely predict there won't be any mind-network interfaces much past the smartphone any time in the next century, let alone robot exoframes capable of running for more than a few hours without either a battery swap or a lengthy many hour recharge. Those damn physics be the problem, organic life has already had a few billion years of optimisation done, it's hard to push much further in a century without sacrificing something important or vital.
