The Canary Islands have a reputation of being a tourist trap, but Tenerife is a world-class destination experience when avoiding the touristy areas. The island offers an enormous variety of landscapes and terrains, including rainforests, lunar-like landscapes, volcanic regions, black sand beaches, and valleys. It has a rich history, old fortifications, naval battles, pirates, and old-world towns with architecture. The food and drink are superb, and the climate is dry without being too dry or warm without being too hot. The island is clean, with no plastic on the beaches and minimal pollution.
